Collaborative Learning Day
Higher education is changing, and so are the communities we serve. Student and employer needs continue to shift, new technologies are reshaping how people learn and work, and communities across our region are navigating real demographic and economic change. Community colleges sit close to all of this, because our work is tied directly to the people and places around us — students and families, schools, employers, industries, organizations, and communities across the region.
This year's Collaborative Learning Day theme, The Engaged Campus, asks a simple question: what does it look like, in practice, to stay closely connected to the people who depend on us?
Collaborative Learning Day has long given faculty and staff a chance to share expertise, exchange ideas, and learn from one another's work. This year, that conversation widened a little further, while still leaving room for what has always made the day worth attending. That includes the project someone has been quietly building, the tool or process that made their work easier, or the idea they had been meaning to share for a while — those contributions are just as welcome as they have always been. It also includes something bigger: sessions that ask how our work connects to our students, our college, or our communities, and what becomes visible when we look beyond our own roles and departments toward the institution as a whole.
Sessions and information booths build new connections, bring in different perspectives, and help us imagine how Kirkwood can continue to grow as an engaged campus and community partner — alongside the smaller, practical ideas that have always had a place here.
Throughout the day, you will find sessions that bring people together around ideas, questions, practices, partnerships, challenges, and opportunities that matter to Kirkwood and the communities we serve. Sessions examine a challenge facing our students or our region; share an innovative practice or an emerging idea; explore how technology or workforce change is affecting our work; highlight a partnership or connection beyond the college; help colleagues better understand an area of Kirkwood's work; bring different parts of the college together around a shared question; or open up a conversation about how Kirkwood tells its story and shows its value to the communities it serves.
